Dear Friends of HFRC,

Greetings to you on this beautiful sunny autumn day!

First of all, we would like to express our thanks to you for your faithful and continual support. Because of your loving support and prayers, HFRC has been tremendously blessed. We would like to share these blessings with you as follows.

Active Listening Service
In the past 9 months, we have provided 67 active listening services to 41 people. Some of them called from out-of-state. Our record shows that the need of active listening is increasing every month. HFRC keeps providing trainings to lay counselors by the licensed professional counselors and is willing to train more volunteers who would like to participate in the active listening services to meet the increasing needs. The HFRC Listening Center is open from 10am to 12pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The services are provided either by phone or in person. Reservation is required.

Parenting Classes
There were 7 Chinese and 6 English Parenting Classes offered in the past 9 months. 94 parents have attended those classes. Two local churches also invited HFRC staff to conduct Parenting Classes which benefitted 209 parents. The topics of the Parenting Classes include “Anger Management,” “Effective Communication,” “Character Building,” and “Positive Discipline.” Many parents gained knowledge and insight from the classes. They learned to improve the relationship with their children by first effectively managing their own emotions. More and more parents realized that the way to build positive relationship with their children should start from them. They need to be the role model. If you or your friend would like to be a growing parent, please join our Parenting Classes in 2010.

Community Workshops
In February and September, we offered two community workshops, and the topics were “The Life of a Single Parent” and “Walk toward Sunshine” respectively. More than 100 people attended the workshops and they received encouragement, comfort and help from the sharing and testimonies.

Life Rebuilding Retreat
The first HFRC Life Rebuilding Retreat was held on April 17th to 19th. Twenty-four participants experienced the life changing process through the teaching of our speaker, Mrs. Jean Ho, and sharing from others. In order to provide continual support for each other, a monthly support group was formed after the retreat.
We are planning to have the 2nd HFRC Life Rebuilding Retreat on April 16th to 18th, 2010. We encourage more people to come and learn life rebuilding skills to save our families and next generations. Please stay tuned for future updates regarding the retreat.

Fundraising Dinner
About 700 people attended the Herald International Vision Sharing and Thanksgiving Fundraising Dinner on the Labor Day weekend to support the work of our ministries.

The Outlook of 2010

  1. We will continue to provide community workshops, support groups, parenting classes, life rebuilding retreat and active listening services to people or families who are in need.
  2. We would like to recruit more fathers to join us so we can provide more services to male clients. They will serve as role models to boys from broken families, so these young people can grow up with healthy minds and spirits.
  3. We encourage people who have been healed and rebuilt from their broken relationships to step out to help other families in crisis.
  4. We would like to see more caring adults to care and guide the younger generations, so they can have blessed marriages and healthy families of their own.
  5. Plan to assist CCHC branches nationwide to train volunteers for family ministries.

The 2010 Activities
  1. Two community workshops will be conducted on March 6th and September 18th.
  2. There will be 4 sessions of the Chinese Parenting Classes in May and October, and English Parenting Classes in May and September.
  3. The 2nd Family Rebuilding Retreat will be held from April 16th to 18th.

HFRC Needs Your Support
Volunteers: Since the services of the HFRC are greatly needed, we would like to invite willing hearts to participate in the administrative work, newsletter writing, bookkeeping, and active listening.
Donation: If you would like to financially support HFRC, you may write your check payable to HFRC. We will issue you a tax-deductible receipt. Thank you!

In closing, we'd like to wish you and your family a bountiful Thanksgiving Holiday, a merry Christmas and a happy and healthy 2010!!

Best regards,

Ann Zhou
